Discuss Thrower & Olympian


Krishna Poonia is an International Discuss Thrower & Olympian.  She was born in Agroha, Hissar, Haryana. She got married to Virender Poonia of Churu, Rajasthan who was an International Athlete working in Indian Railways. While studying in Knodia College Jaipur she was training hard with her husband in Discuss Throw Event. The hard work of the couple showed results and she became the Golden Girl of Indian Sports.


Career


The Six Feet Krishna is the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in track and field events of Delhi, Commonwealth games 11th  October 2010 and the first Indian to win a gold medal in such events after Milkha Singh who had won the gold in Men's 440 yards race in the 1958 Cardiff Commonwealth Games
On 8 May 2012, she bettered her personal best with a throw of 64.76 meters in Hawaii, USA which is the new Indian National Record.
She completed a creditable six in the women’s discus throw in the 2012 London Olympics.

Achievement


Krishna Poonia has been honored by  the greatest Awards in Indian Sports ARJUN AWARD in 2010 and PADAM SHREE AWARD in 2011.
The Government of India & Indian Railway not only honored her with lots of Awards but also sanctioned the one & only Throw Academy in the Lap of Rajasthan situated at K.P Singh Railway Stadium, Jaipur. The International Level Throw academy in Jaipur has started its functions and the top Indian Railway throwers are practicing here. Its also open for up coming dynamic young Athletes of Rajasthan.
